Someone's newly Awakened and is doing a Web search on magic and whatever else she's seen.  While's she'll be unfamiliar with Awakened jargon, keywords related to sensing every bug in the house or seeing warm spots as bloodstains should come up with something.

On the other end, there are the tech-savvy mages who want their site found but still have to hide from Sleepers and defend against enemies.  Note that I didn't explicitly say Free Council; I suspect other Orders -- and Seers -- would want an online presence, to spite the Libertines if nothing else.

Is all this plausible, and how would this work if so?
My rebuttal to official denial.  What other conclusion was I supposed to arrive at from Heideggerian rants?

The main issue would be that if she's newly awakened (by which I'm sort of guessing not initiated into an Order?) she'd not be able to read High Speech. As the best way to protect magical discussion is to write it in Atlantean (or 'Atlantean' depending on your opinions)... I think your best bet for finding genuine mages (amongst gutter wizards, other supers and frauds) and would be in person.

Sorry for only bringing more problems, but I honestly don't see how you'd be able to just find it for the looking.

1) Pick one of the central routers for the internet -- perhaps one of AT&T's trunk switches
2) Use Space + Forces to get at the programming
3) Use reprogramming + Fate or Time + Prime so that it routes any request from a newly-awakened mage to your web site.

Use a variant of the Fate spell that lets you call people without knowing their number: email the newly-awakened, or IM them, or skype them.

Set up a site with some content that will tend to draw in such searches, but imbue the server with the ability to anchor a ghost to the return packets. Have the ghost check out the recipient, and then come back. If the recipient is awakened, the ghost can make the server show them different content.

You could set up ads and websites with High Speech runes and a powerful Space + Mind + Forces spell that compels anyone capable of perceiving them, but not reading them, to send the Free Council or the Silver Ladder an e-mail. It'd be a bit of a security risk because of Banishers though.

Good point about Banishers and Seers.

I think your safest bet would be the above mentioned use of various Fate spells to redirect the appropriate people to sites you are monitoring, and then tracking them that way.

The other methods are probably just as effective, but you would run into potential risk of threats as often as new mages.

I think its more likely pentacle or seer mages might find the new mage. They are already on the lookout for new awakenings and know what to look for, the new mage on the otherhand, dosen't know what to look for (Evident in the fact the newly awakened mage is using the internet.  I mean c'omon what is she/he gonna do- type 'I'm going crazy' into google?)

The idea of using Fate is one that I had, as well.  Theoretically, an entire server could have a Fate+Forces+Space spell encoded to make only that WEBPAGE bound by Fate.

The problem with the High Speech, IMHO, is that most new mages who ARE looking online couldn't understand it.  They may realize it means SOMETHING, but using it to code messages wouldn't be useful in most cases.

It's also possible that mages are using Fate themselves to search the blogs... some people will post their "dream journals" online.  It wouldn't be hard for a Mage to crack a passcode on such a journal (Mind 2 or the likely possessedFate 2 could get it easily) and analyze it for clues that suggest an Awakening... might even find a rare few people during a Mystery Play.

Lol, I'm picturing something like the Matrix.

"Follow the White Rabbit."
"Oh come on, you expect me to fall for that one?!"
"No seriously, we're Mages, turn around and follow the damn White Rabbit!"

Remember timecube?

After you awaken, timecube will make sense. Then you know to go back.
