We finished Hairspray today and are starting RHPS next week. The Muslims in the class, though they've read up on RHPS, have decided not to drop the class. I'm happy about that.

In my other lecture, we did Prometheus (and by extension, Epimetheus and Pandora) today. It was a great lecture, and I was surprised at how many people already knew the stories of Pandora's box and the secret of Promethean fire. They did not know, however, and got a kick out of how Prometheus tricked Zeus into choosing the fat and bone of the sacrifice, thus leaving the meat for men!

If one of my students had the twilight balls to say that to me, I'd unzip my pants and say, "You know what you gotta do first."
Watch out. It is Japan. One of the male students might just be interested in your offer.

Despite what Mordwyr wrote in the above post, he must be doing something right, because he has just been informed that he will be receiving a $6400 raise next academic year!
Holy fuck balls, that's half my yearly salary! I'd love it of my school told me "we're going to give you a 50% pay raise!"

Sadly, that means I'd still be technically poor.

Half your yearly salary? Holy shit! It's not even a tenth of mine....but that counts wedding pimping on the weekends, too. ;)

I started Rocky Horror Picture Show in one of my lecture classes, and in the other one I lectured on some of Greece's earliest myths, i.e., Prometheus, Europa, Narcissus, and Adonis.

I don't know where else to post this, so I might as well here: in my last wedding today, the groom was yakuza. He was probably a peon but definitely a yak. I thought that was cool--and the fact that his bride was making fuck-me eyes at me during the ceremony, no doubt trying to tempt me to do something stupid and get her husband to electrocute my balls or something.

maybe the new catch phrase attracts a new type of clientele... just when I thought weddings could not get more stressful

What a wonderful / shitty day at work today! What a bunch of great / terrible students!

In my first two lectures, we did our second week of RHPS in the first one (I brought in the props, showed them the fan site, showed them how to find live theater); and in the second class I lectured on the Lovers' myths--Cupid & Psyche and Orpheus & Eurydice. It was great, and the students were interested and excited. Then I had a wonderful lunch of homemade honey and oatmeal bread, fresh garlic olives, cheddar cheese, and fresh-cut carrots and broccoli. All was good, until my class after lunch. It's one of my test prep classes, so, sure, it's boring, and I understand when some kids doze off. But today, no small number of them were just staring at their textbooks and not trying any of the practice test questions. I gave them 15 minutes to answer a few of them, and they just at there and stared. Fuck that shit! I kicked them all out after berating them for their laziness. I said "Get the hell out of my sight, you slatterns!" They did not comprehend my words, but they certainly got my meaning. Afte ra few moments of stunned silence, students began trickling out, ashamed that they had so dishonored their ancestors.

I hope it's better next week.  And I love the Lovers' myths class.  Cupid and Psyche and Orpheus and Eurydice--gorgeous!

And I'm glad you liked the lunch. ^_^
