But nothing about the Clan or Vicissitude makes them insane... unless you buy into that whole Soul Eater crap.

So what if I do? Stick out tongue

I remember that. If I am correct I pointed out to you that a Vicissitude anything in the Black Hand was a death sentence. Darn has it been that long.

The REAL reason for Tzimisce 'insanity' has to do with flavor.

Yes.

Zakariya Bey:
One system that Dark Ages introduced that I actually found to be a good idea was the concept that derangements were tied into development of higher level Discipline powers. It made for the elders being even more crazy, paranoid and out-of-touch than usual. Just something to bring up if you want to reflect that alienness of the Tzimisce. Have some sort of system for derangements tied in with Vicissitude use and high level powers.

Double Yes.  I was a firm supporter of that concept, not simply as a game-mechanic "balancer", but more so because it metaphysically "rang true".

I have to say, I must have been one of the only people back in the day (non-munchkin) who thought the backstory for Vicissitude was dead-on.  You can, of course, use any premise you want to, but this one not only played true to the over-arcing themes of WoD, it also indirectly tied a variation of Cthonic-esque invasive horror into it, as well. That Vicissitude was Dynamism made sentient -- in sentient beings, anyway-- was metaphysically very sound.  The "soul-eater" effect was largely due to the cosmological imbalances in the WoD, itself, as a setting/in story, and because the first being to manifest/consume this piece of Dynamism was a Primordial/"Wyrm" being -- a vampire, who in turn not only passed this dynamic force to others, but distorted and corrupted it (without intent, but by simple nature) via his own vitae...  That's good stuff, dude.  Just go watch The Thing, and scale it larger (but also much more slowly in terms of "contagion").  Pure Awesome.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who dug the idea. Big Smile

ALL Vampires go insane given time.

From a Human perspective anyway.....For example, in my game, the prince killed an 8 year girl absolute cold blooded killing of someone whose only crime was to have been an innocent bystander and witnessed her brother being embraced by a Nosferatu.

from the Human perspective the act of a psychopath?

From his perspective:  Tidying up loose ends

No one is insane from his/hers own perspective. If a mentally unstable human does something odd he/she does it because it makes complete sense to him/her.

So in your example cold blooded murder of an innocent child is a sure sign of a sociopath it doesnt matter that it makes perfect sense to him except by actually confirming that he is a sociopath. If he wasnt it wouldnt make sense to him and he would find another way to tidy the loose ends.

Even Malkavians usually dont know that they are insane thye likely know that others of their Clan are, but themselves? Hardly. Like in one of the fictions about Dr.Netchurch who wonders how he has evaded his clans hereditary madness since he is clearly quite sane.

Human perspective is all that matters in defining insanity since matters of sanity have been classified by human psyche which vampires even the metamorphosist do have. Human mind just is not build for vampiric existence hence it is usually called a curse. Human mind fractures as it is forced to look upon others of his former kind as food, avoid sunlight and live for ever. Human mind is not that capable of handling centuries worth of memories and unlife that coupled with supernatural power which makes killing humans laughably easy. Power does corrupt, and once you get away with it once or twice it does start to get to you and you loose your humanity (I'm not speaking of game mechanics now although that too does get lower this way). With the Tzimisce this is aggravated by the fact that humans are mere clay to them it does indeed feed a certain god complex and eats away at your humanity and hence sanity. In their own perspective they are of course quite sane it's the others who cant see the way things truly are, but then again how could they as mere mortals?
