I don't want to derail Holden's thread so I brought this over here.

So what do we know about The 5 Elemental Dragons?

Since they have their own exalted I figured they were semi-Incarne level.

Have I missed some writeup on them?  Because I haven't really seen anything on them other then the general "there are these 5 dragons".

... and a blurb about them sticking up for elementals in the RoD books.

Any enlightenment would be awesome.

They are five of Gaia's Third Circle souls. Their power level relative to the Incarnae has never been compared to my knowledge.

Where is this information?

I know we all "believe" they are Gaia's Third Circle Souls, but has this ever been confirmed?

And if this is the case why are they so special that they get their own exalted?

As far as I know, it hasn't been printed, but we've seen Autochthon's souls, we know Primordials have souls, and we know Gaia has these children of hers. It's not a hard leap.

Because Gaia signed on to the Titanomachy, and so she got her share of the toys.

The line has generally left the Five Elemental Dragons in the "rigidly defined areas of uncertainty" box along with Gaia, the Eye of Autochthon, where the Empress is, and what the Games of Divinity are.

We don't know that they're her Third Circle souls. We don't really know anything about them except what the Immaculate Faith teaches, and the Immaculate Faith was doodled on one of Kejak's cocktail napkins as an educational tool for Terrestrials.

That said:

1) They have to be something.
2) Gaia has to have some Third Circle souls.

So, there's a round peg and a round hole; either one fits in the other or there are another set of pegs and holes somewhere that we don't know about, so the logical conclusion is that they are indeed Third Circle souls of Gaia.

Core rules and RoGD I if I recall correctly.

Gaia didn't want to create her own bunch of superweapons but allowed her children, in the form of the Five Elemental Dragons, to provide the blessings necessary to forge the Terrestrial Exaltation.
Which basically boils down to "Mercucio's right, but I'll be damned if I don't weasel my way out of admitting it".

That is to say, it was decided that the Dragons gave the blessings instead of Gaia before it was worked out how Primordial souls operated. The distinction is pretty much inseparable from Terrestrial religion and iconography, so it had to be retained even though it no longer makes any real sense.

I think it was in DotFA, but I remember reading that two (fire and earth) of the five dragons are napping on Gaia's say so.  I've alway kinda wondered where the other three spent their days.

It really is a shame we're not getting an equivalent for Gaia.  Harmonies of Creation or something like that.  Info on Gaia, the five dragons, and then a completely new charm set for the terrestrials ;p

More seriously though I hope Glories go well so we'll finally see Gaia defined.

This is covered in Compass: Wyld and, I think, Divinity I. Pasiap and Hesiesh constrain themselves because their unfettered presence in Creation is disruptive. The others travel the dragon lines of the world, supplying it with the geomantic Essence necessary to keep Creation alive.

There has been a persistent, deliberate sort of ambiguity about the nature of the Five Dragons, but there's little else they've been hinted at being that makes much sense.

You do not. I can find nothing of the sort. If you've got a page number, of course, I can accept being wrong.

I'm pretty sure this had less to do with what Gaia wanted and more to do with what the Incarnae would tolerate.

The Dragons giving the blessings instead of Gaia is from the 1e core. Yozi soul structure was written into Games of Divinity by Dr. Moran, who mentioned somewhere her other that it was her idea to do them that way. Ergo, one happened before the other.

Still looking for the 3rd Circle reference, but it apparently has everything to do with what Gaia wanted:

Exalted, p. 30:
Gaia would create no soldiers, but she gave her blessing to the Elemental Dragons, and they raised up soldiers to serve as the armies for the heroes, the Dragon-Blooded.
