Holden:

If you use it intelligently, it's basically an extra stock of Protections of Celestial Bliss that you will not try to renew mid-combat. If you use it unintelligently, thinking standard PoCB can protect you while you put it back up, a group of Solars might unleash Iron Whirlwind Spam From Hell and kill you while you're vulnerable.
I have never been so glad to see a charm as a bit underpowered.

This seemed like a good place to say it, these pdfs are amazing and have me looking forward to Exalted's future.

It's a great emergency charm though.
Given how it's a Simple (7,-4) charm that's not combo-ok, that's the worst think you can do in combat short of sorcery (that I know of). So no, it's the most horrible emergency charm i have ever ever seen.

back to Holden :
Basically what you mean is "the side effect of gimping the death lords isn't a side effect, this charm is supposed to suck, because it's purpose is to gimp the death lords". If the Death Lords get pre-fight preparation, he'll be a bit harder to fight. If he doesn't this charm is pretty much moot.

PS : thank your for the explaination on World-Scarring Solar Glory and Creation-Slaying Holocaust Blade (acronyms are faster, but not writing this name would be a crime against Cool), I can see how one would want a charm to turn him into a permanent death machine ready to splatter anyone, even if that's not objectively the best charm to get an edge as a duelist.

I might have missed it, but did anyone else mention that the Arms of the Unconquered Sun style was posted on the forums earlier from Holden? Not that it is a bad thing, as I loved the style to begin with.

The fact that Little Beam is possibly the UCS's son and he has a number of bennies from Saturn makes me wonder if their yearly friendly fight didn't get a bit too friendly one year.

There's already one in Dreams of the First Age. Those will be given proper errata and turned into properly functional Charms soon, so I didn't want to overwrite anything they did (or tried to do) in Glories.

That's an encouraging thing to hear.

(And this soon is... soon?  Like, not in the geological sense, but...)

Thank you.

Thanks to all of you.  I'd buy this again in a heartbeat, and recommend it to every Exalted player I know.

Yeah. If you pre-buff with it, I mean, hell, I'd certainly take it. But trying to refresh it mid-fight is a tactical trap. Protection of Celestial Bliss is just good enough that it might protect you but probably won't if your opponents go all-out.

Most really high-Essence Charms are kind of like a bentley with a bumper-sticker reading "my other ride is your mom." They're more for showing off than getting places. As you correctly identified, anyone E8 with World-Scarring Solar Glory can already kill bloody anything. Now, for 8xp, he can be lazy about it.

Well, a style was posted to the forums years ago. Anyone with an old copy sitting around on their hard drive will notice that Arms of the UCS and Five Arms of the UCS share Charm names and concept structure, but have very different Charms composing them.

I was wondering if anyone would notice that.

What was the contest that year? Which one of us will finish first?

Which one of them doesn't end up knocked up?

Are you trying to kill me ? This made me laugh so hard I almost choked. Arrgh, my head hurts now, and my cat is looking at me funny.
I now know how to describe high essence effects to player, this perfectly describe both the interest and the limit of the whole thing.

Yeah, I noticed that too, I was "Hmmm, you could use PoCB to refresh this one, and then recharge it ..." but then I realised that 15m 1wp on top of the heavy fine of not attacking for 7 ticks is much more than one should pay for that effect. Once you can fire HGD every other action (or more likely, Death-Deflcting Technique), you don't even need this, it's a trap like the old BotBM but worse.
The more I think about it, the less I'm able to see a use for this charm at all. Apart from scaring the players with stuff like "he can activate a perfect without a charm activation, ha !".

I was going to say that Saturn would be stupid for taking this challenge except that she might be able to end the problem of males not getting pregnant.

Yeah, from the wording of Beast Lords of the Blessed Isle, that's something you ask luna to do.

That's also what I'd like to know, but I suspect Holden can't officially answer.

Removing some of the insanities would be nice, for all the charmsets.  I mean, I was able to make a high-essence lunar that went toe-to-toe with 3 different high essence Solars in a long-duration fight... and won.  Well, kinda.  She knocked out the one person she was interested in and hauled him off to see the Zenith priest.
