Im running a Worldwide Chronicle with other Storytellers, and we tend to agree on most of everything, but this has been bugging us for some time, as we cant agree, and I cant find any clear mention on it:

Can werewolves age and die like humans?

Since i found characters in the book (in the appendix) who obviously aged, and one that is supposedly 80 and not quite as healthy as before, and the fact werewolves are born and grow up, I said Werewolves Age, though slower as humans, and can die of old age.

While another ST states, they aint human so age doesnt apply, and their ability to heal would stop the decline and aging of Bodycells, wich i think is a valid point.

Seeing though how Vampires get torpor to avoid becoming too powerful with age, there is no system like that in place for werewolves who become too powerful?

so all in all: I assume they age, slower than Humans, and then Eventually Die (though of course most die in battle way before that)

But has anyone any offical reference to this so my group can settle that argument ^^
Grateful for any assistance.

Yes, werewolves can age and die. Aging effects a werewolf much like it effects us, only for them it takes much, much longer. Female werewolves hit menopause. Metabolism slows down, the skin wrinkles and their senses dull. But usually not until age 95.

In Blood of the Wolf (which is the perfect book for all sorts of questions such as these), page 31 there is a section on aging:

"The peoples regenerative ability does more than repair the cuts and scrapes...it efficiently cleanses their bodes of arterial plaque, maintains bone density and prevents arthritis, among other things...age rarely has any effect on a werewolf until she reaches 90 or 100, and she tends to look no more than half her advanced age."

They also state that higher primal urge offers even longer lifespans.

i believe that when they hit a certain point, they are more spirit than human and therefore take a nap when they can't get enough essence.

but i don't have blood of the wolf so i might be wrong.

From what I remember, werewolves have a maximum age of about 200. Of course, none of them ever live that long. They tend to get killed first.

But some werewolves with high primal urge can put themselves into a sort of torpor to sleep away the ages. Can't for the life of me remember what book I saw that in, but I remember thinking that would be a fantastic thing for the players to discover. Then they have to decide whether to wake it or not...

Blood of the wolf (page 32) says "Some of the People even say that the real, true werewolve never die of old age.  Legends persist of hidden caves where primal monsters have slumbered for centuries, even millennia - ancestors who never succumbed to old age, but who have instead fallen into hibernation, waiting for the right time to wake and hunt again."  Seems to be a very "Whatever the ST wants to do in his game, we've made ledgends for you but they can be true or false"

At least War Agains the Pure actually has a NPC (antagonist) that is over 120 years old, and is far from suffering from the effects of 'old age.'

I thought it said in the Core that werewolves never die from age, but from the lifestyle a werewolf lives  and the oldest was like 200 something but died in battle. I'd rule that since they are half spirit they'd never die of old age, but would still age just not growl brittle like humans
Just what I love seeing after I post

I don't know of any references in the core, most of the discussion I've seen in the books on age is in Blood of the Wolf.  But you're right, most passages indicate that werewolves rarely die of old age, they die on their feet.

Most don't live long enough to find out.

Red Sticks may have about 200 years old counting the time he spend slumbering.

I say when the werewolf hits the point in primal urge were he bleeds essence, he would become technically ageless, his inmortal spirit keeping him alive above his flesh. (PU 6 on the case, an outstanding rating for many!)

Your main question has already been answered. I just wanted to add that this argument isn't valide in general anyway as fas as I know: Changelings age and die, Mages age and die and now we know that Werewolves age and die as well (of course one could argue that Mages are more similiar to humans than the other supernaturals). Vampires don't age and die in the classical sense but personally I see  torpor as some kind of mental death because they lose a huge part of their memory. And without memory you're not the same person you used to be or in other words: the old person has died.

I kind of think at a certain age they would start getting mange(sp?) and then go off into the spirit wyld.

Sort of like the American Indians would when they got along in years and did not want to burden the tribe.
I do not fear an army of lions, if they are led by a lamb.   I do fear an army of sheep, if they are led by a lion.

That is because on the Shadow, the werewolf doesnt bleeds essence if his Primal Urge is otherwise too high (6 and above), thus, he doesnt falls into slumber by being there. Basically just how the spirits lose essence by being in the physical realm, either materialized or in twilight.

I think that since they are part spirit and part physical, their bodies age until they start becoming too "spiritualized", then they stop aging and die from battles. They would be like the old WoD mages after too much arete. Retreat to the shadow where you feel "at home" and doesnt fall into a slumber.
