i was wanting to play a Nokatu (if that is how it is spelled) from Bloodlines: the Chosen
Noctuku I think.  Also, ew.

Ok, well, in all fairness, I wouldn't allow Chosen bloodlines in my game either, it just never came up as a needed restriction because we all agreed that they were terrible.

I'd just ask the guy, its the best you're going to get.

I've put restrictions on characters before basically in order to make sure that the player characters would fit in the setting and story I was intending to run.  However if asked why I made the restrictions I was always honest on why I did it so I see no reason why you shouldn't just ask about it.

I get what your saying about restrictions can tend to limit player freedom, but sometimes its fun to see what a player comes up with when they can't go to their "go to" type of character.

Having the same Clan or Covenant doesn't necessarily make the characters too similar. In a New Wave game I'm in at the moment we're mostly Ventrue Invictus but we have wildly different concepts. Not all necessarily buisnessmen either: My Ventrue Invictus is a strapped for cash Jazz Musician.

My guess is he wants the PC's to belong to one of two allied broods, with the other clans and covenants being antagonists or neutral.

well i didn't ask him this was a restriction made after my first character died (which i didn't build he built for me (also something i dont care too much for))which was a mekhet.  and all sequential characters (as in sequence trying to make sure im using the word properly) can only be one of those 4.

figured i might as well mention the group (all friends of mine) except for 1 view me as a hassle so i'm not going to bother them any more or inform them that i heard of this.  bothers the hell out of me because everything that has gone wrong with me involving another character has been something pushed onto me by another then blamed fully on me, eh what can you do

do any of you put in character creation restrictions.  my current ST for our wed game does put in restrictions which i dont have a problem with but when we can only be 1/2 covenants (not including unaligned but those are playble too) and 1/2 clans and out of those only the bloodlines from the core book i think it stifles the ability to build something interesting or fun to play when everything is so damn similar.

Sometimes i restrict covenants, but clans? Never did and i never intend to do (except for Ventrues in RFR :-P)

I hate bloodlines but my players seem to like some of them, so i let them pick the less problematic ones

My ST puts some restrictions on.. kinda. Its a weird situation, but it works for us. We all started out mortal, then through the course of the story our ST chose what we became.. (its a mixed game) My character was embraced Mehket, which was not my choice (but I was cool with it) but I got to chose my covenant, and I didn't have to stick with my sire's bloodline if I didn't want to (but I did).

We didn't chose what he became, but everyone ended up becoming something that really fit the character we had made. Its fun, but I would only recommend it if you trust your ST implicitly. We ran as mortals for about a year before anyone turned supernatural, so we knew we could trust him to make it awesome.

How about growing a pair of balls and being honest about how you feel to the group and the ST?

I'm curious about this.  If its ok to hijack this a bit (I think the original point was resolved, or at least given up on, might I ask why you dislike bloodlines?  I personally love bloodlines and as far as I'm concerned, in my games, the only vampires without one are those with BP 1 (or >4 with undesireably parentage), and the occasional undecided player.

While I don't really agree with the word choices, I would have to agree with Fabio. If something is pushed on you and then you are completely blamed for it, even in front of the ST, than you have to as the quote above this says, "grow a pair" and tell someone. It may just lead to you leaving the group, calling someone out as the ass that puts this burden on you, or just sitting there and dealing with it silently. The last one is definitely not the best option, it will eventually lead to you leaving the group anyway because you will slowly stop enjoying the game. Another way of dealing with this is to act along with your ST and kill every other character at the table, by combat or subterfuge have them slowly wiped out, than come out on top and blame the players for their inability to play their characters right; it's a terrible thing to due but revenge is something that is very gratifying, especially when you've been shit on by your fellow gamers.
It's just mind over matter, if you don't mind than what does it matter?
