Due to a few problems with people not being able to make it, my RP group has put its current campaign on hold and started playing some one-offs. Naturally I've seized this opportunity to introduce everyone to WoD, and it's been going very well- they love the system and are eager to play some more.

In the Vampire one-shot they encountered a werewolf, and now fancy having a go at playing them. I'm running it because I'm the only one who knows the system (and own the book!). Heres where my problem is.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not a huge fan of werewolf. There's too much emphasis on the spirituality side of it, and I find some of the gift lists a little OOC. Personally I feel a werewolf's power should come from the fact it can turn into a sodding great big monster, not because it can throw fireballs, turn into a mobile phone or make a strawberry the size of a car. With the unlimited types of spirits that can teach you their secrets, it can veer close to being a furry version of Mage.

I've done a bit of houseruling for when werewolves appear as NPCs, and I've been planning to write up the changes for making them PCs, but haven't got round to it yet. Everybody wanting to play though has forced my hand. Minor things like Lunacy won't be too bad, but changing the gift lists is my problem. I've taken out the Elemental, Knowledge, Shaping and Technology gifts to place more emphasis on the physical/savage abilities of the characters. This of course leaves a huge gap. A quick bandaid solution would be to just double up the gifts available, but that could cause some balance issues (maybe not for this one shot, but in general). My question is, are there gift lists in the other books I could use to replace the removed gifts? Ones which focus on the 'natural' abilities of the werewolf?

(just a quick note- I'm not intending to offend anyone with this post, so please don't think it's an attack on W:TF. It's just how I personally feel about the game, and I don't mean to insult anyone who's a fan. I'm sure there's plenty of you out there who dislike the systems I like ;) )

Werewolf has the most powers than any other game, save for the giant spell lists of Mage.   I'm not entirely sure if you would consider these Gifts "natural," though.    Either way, I find the best books for new Gifts would be The Rage and Lore of the Forsaken.   If you want a good book for making generic werewolf baddies, though, I would also recommend checking out Spirit Slayers, from the Hunter line- its the "Forsaken as antagonists" book, along with alternate baddie creation rules.

You are not the only one that gets annoyed at the non-wolf Gifts, so there's not worries there.

Try Pack Gifts in The Rage and Territory Gifts in Territories. But if you're cutting out the other gifts you may as well cut out Tribes, or you could just run a Pure game.
