One can hope. However I wouldn't be surprised if it were to prepare for a 2012 election.

In the era of internet (youtube, news feeds, blogs and who knows what all else),  and several 24 hour news stations, it takes one hell of a lot to escape negative publicity.
It isn't like the days where they had only move beyond one evening or morning headline in a newspaper and a brief mention on a 1/2 news program at about the dinner hour and again perhaps at 10pm in order to get beyond a scandal and go back to duping the public about their true agenda.
One can actually be effectively buried in coverage until there is no alternative to resignation in this day and age, which is a very good thing indeed -- especially since the party most concerned with "Family Values" and legislating into existence some sort of truly screwed up and inappropriate "moral code" into law seem also to have a strong penchant for being caught in immoral and/or criminal acts/scandals.
Still, her remarks about better serving America in the private sector has me worried that she will front some new or existing reactionary group that espouses hate/oppression as if it were sacred and Holy.
