That's all well and great Skel, but I swear if you try to turn this into another gay marriage thread I will fucking decapitate you.

Sarah Palin did a lot of good for my friends. Not one of them bothered to register to vote until they realized there was a chance, however slim, that by not voting they could allow her entry into the White House.

Who said fear isn't a good motivator?

I would not be surprised to see Palin as the figure head of a new arch conservative movement.  Her one real chance to be anything other than a humorous footnote in American history would be to front a new party independent of the Republicans.  This way the neo-cons that think McCain, Powell and people like them aren't conservative enough can have their own representitive group.

I'd be happy to see something similar happen with the Democrats as well as I believe America (and possibly the rest of the world) would be better served with more political parties in the US system.  This "one or the other" system forces people that don't agree with certain issues to side with people they think are idiots, just in hopes of getting support for what they want.  It's a shitty system as it stands, no issue really gets the discussion and review it deserves, needing a consensus of multiple parties would better serve the US as it forces issues to be reviewed before consensus can be reached.

I'm in favor of 5 parties but even 3 sizeable parties would be better.  Sorry but the Libertarians don't count as a sizeable party, but could be the core of a new larger one.

I can't tell you how many people I know voted for Obama just because the alternative was Sarah Palin. I know actual racists who voted Obama for that reason.

I thought this might be a bumped Michael Jackson thread when I first read the title.

Taking a step back before a running jump can be good political practice. It lets people forget about the minor fuckups and when you come back you can remind them of the good and accuse people of mud-slinging if they drag back up the bad. I don't think it will work with Mrs. Palin.

Now, if you want her dead, you need to write to the Discovery Channel people and suggest Celebrity Deadliest Catch. If she doesn't jump aboard such a project, she'll be thrown there.

Lord Bob, there was no Gay Marriage Thread to my knowledge. We had the Jacuzzi Thread, the Gaymers Thread and the Gay News Thread.

Some folks are tired of every slightly political thread that Skel posts in having DOMA brought up, that's what Bob is referring to.

I think she will try something.
Alaska is too far away from where the action is.
The only thing I'm willing to bet on is that her family is moving to the contiguous united states so they can be closer to the 24 hour news monster without having to pick a fight with David Letterman.
You know, she wants her family left alone, so maybe she'll move to D.C. where they can live more privately. Barf-poop.

Those folks are not required to respond to it.  I'm not saying I don't get sick of it myself, but let him talk about whatever he wants to talk about, and if no one answers, he will stop talking about it.  Done and done.

The odd part for me is why shutdown her only record of real political involvement if her White House ambitions are sincere. If it's because she really is sick of the limelight (and only half of me believes that tripe) and wants to focus on her family (hoho! See what I did there!), I can understand the quick withdrawal. But I also half wonder if it doesn't involve a not yet revealed scandal.

But that's the political paranoid in me.

Correct. Not every political thread needs to revolve around that single issue. It's certainly not why I made this one.

I would just for once like to have a liberal ranting thread that doesn't focus solely on the issue of gay marriage. There are plenty of other reasons to hate Sarah Palin, like that $150,000 dress she wore that McCain's camp paid for. Or her not knowing what a VP is. Or her using religion to divide the country. Or corruption, incompetence, arrogance, etc.

Amen, brother.  When I think of reasons to hate Sarah Palin, I keep coming back to that agonizingly embarrassing "interview" she gave Katie Couric, in which she made Katie Effing Couric pull out her hardass side by dodging the question "What periodicals do you read?" for what seemed like twenty stammering, sweaty-brow minutes before finally admitting she lied and she hadn't read anything.

You don't read, so you have no idea what's going on, but you think you're qualified to sit in the big chair when Death realizes he missed a stop on his route and swings back around to pick up McCain.  Jesus Christ.

Also, I'm still kinda pissed off about that "real Americans" comment.  Fuck you, Skankzilla.

Read the update at the end of this - if that is true, then she couldn't pardon herself - but her successor could.

Then again, maybe it's similar to Mark Sanford, and she just can't be arsed to live up to the responsibility she was elected to without the perk of Republican rule.

Well, something I'd like to see even more than full civil rights for all is a few American politicians (namely Bush and Cheney, but Palin would be nice) in gaol.

What I find most worrisome about her resignation speech, is that she thinks the world needs more children with genetic disorders than lead to mental handicaps.  Who knows what she might do to 'improve' all our lives in that regard.
