Although I do currently allow Perception to add to firearms, if I was to start a(nother) new game, I wouldn't. I'd simply have relic guns that did add to the damage. Thus mundane weapons are just that, mundane. By the Colt 45 forged by Samuel Colt himself with iron melted down from the coffin nails of the 15 most murderous outlaws in Boot Hill in the fires of hell itself. That puppy'd do extra damage if the gunman's aim was true.

Not to mention it'd make relic guns super cool because they are so much better than mundane ones on the damage output.

Re: Just ran my first game!

The reason I would make the Perception bonus to Firearms a knack is for the additional bonus that you get over brawling: Range.
Mechanically, it works just fine - in so far as to counteract the steep decline in power of firearms once you go past early hero - The legend cost makes it less abusable early on, while becoming fairly negligible later on, when the player really needs it.

Thematically, the character could be doing a lot of things with their legendary divine powers to represent the damage increase. The physics nerds could simply be increasing the kinetic energy of the bullet by making it go faster by orders of magnitude, giving it a bigger punch. More fantastically-inclined characters could be infusing the bullet with godly energies, willing the bullet to make fantastic jukes and turns to seek out the vital organs of their foes and bypass armor. Think the JFK magic bullet. Others may even be using their exceedingly fine-tuned divine senses to enter some sort of bullet time, placing a series of rapid shots in the same location, to penetrate even the toughest of armor plating. The possibilities are only constrained by your imagination.

Re: Just ran my first game!

.........

Re: Just ran my first game!

It's been stated repeatedly that guns are limited simply because the mechanism does the "pushing", so it's always constant. Or that bows couldn't possibly work under the pressures of a god-level strength. I was thinking that this problem could be circumvented by following the same reasoning they use for bashing someone with a car. In one of the sidebars they explain that it's possible for a hero to grab a vehicle by the bumper and smack the whole car into someone instead of it simply falling apart because they're so awesome. Would it not be easy enough to extrapolate from that raping of physics that hero's could add Perception to Firearm damage because they notice the most potentially damaging areas on their opposite, and since the bullets move so quickly, are capable of increased damage? Or that the compound bows are capable of sustaining the incredible epic strengths of a god?

Re: Just ran my first game!

I tailor my games to my players.. if they just want hack n slash adventure.. they get that.. but I try to make every PC able to contribute some way..

Re: Just ran my first game!

Remember its also ok to not have their characters be able to fight at all. One of my characters spends most fights just running around figuring out how to distract and confuse people cause he doesnt have much else to do in combat.

I take that back now....it depends on how you as an ST wanna run it. If you end up making fights a focal point then letting people have no prowess will be hard. But remember that later on the gap becomes exponential between those who focus on fighting and those who don't. Even those who casually focus on combat will be outstripped badly later on by someone who is combat focused.

Re: Just ran my first game!

I currently have 3 players, with 2 more possible if they can get their schedules fixed..

Of my 3 current.. two are "role" players. Both made characters that while yes, they could fight.. they also did other things that actually had something to do with their character concept.. and the last. .well. .this is her first time playing a TT RPG.. EVER.. so she doesn't know how to min/max yet..

The other two.. well they could go either way.. but I'd lean towards non min/maxed..

I just want them to have options.. they can either develope into Kratos, whirling engines of hand to hand death.. or follow the Dante path.. and become whirling tornados of bullets..

Now I just gotta hammer out my system for improving Relics..

Re: Just ran my first game!

Huh. No I'm wrong, you dont even have to buy one attribute dot. My brain shut off for a minute.
What you can do is still max stam though. Which isnt a huge deal. Well, maybe first few games if they didnt have armor it would be, but not huge.

Sounds like this guys players are great though and didnt min max. So to keep their dmg up if you want them to have guns add perc.

Re: Just ran my first game!

Lambach:

Because starting characters can max out both perception and dex at starting without spending freebie points on it.
A starting character can start with their max dice(depending on how you do legend) on gun attacks at the first game.

But they can do that with str/dex buying only one attribute dot. It's easy to go 5/5 either way.
