So I am in the position of STing for a group that minimal is just myself and at max is my wife and my closest friend. I purchased all of the nWoD books from DTRPG and the interests of the "group" (if that IS what you would call it :P) Giest and Promethean. So, now my conundrum is this, has anyone successfully ran a collaboration story with allied Giester and Promies? If so, then perhaps you would share some insight as to how an entity of death and a creature striving for mortality can work together. As Giest is so new there are no stereotypical comparisons of the two creatures.

If anyone could assist me please.

-d4rqk0ne

P.S. I am also posting this exact thread in the Promethean forum so please do not delete either, I wish to compare ideals from both communities.

Show me your Krewes

(cross posting from rpg.net, since my thread there dropped faster than a lead balloon)

So, I am hoping some examples will help crystallize it for me. There's only the one partial example in the krewe creation section, and I think a few more might be of help.

As such, like the title says: show me your krewes! What are their myths, their bans/duties/destinies? What is their myth, and how did it change their associated Geists?

Let's see 'em!

Thanks!

In
anticipation of the Book of the Dead, and some personal projects,
I've gone through all of my nWoD books and compiled a master list of
numina. I will admit, I left a handful of numina out that were
basically described as the same as X power. I've also made a
notation as to numen that are specific to certain entities.

And most of all, don't they feel kind of the same?

A friend of mine pointed out this interesting little parallel, and the more I thought about it the more sense it made. What if Kerberoi are the ghosts of True Fae? Possibly those killed by cold iron? Wouldn't that make a great deal of sense?

That's really all I've got, but the idea seemed worth sharing.

I've recently begun the task of building a character, I think I've come up with a pretty interesting character.

His Threshold is Torn, Archetype Gate Keeper. The summarized background for the guy is this, in his living days he was a Necromancer, not a mage or anything just a regular human with a relic he was part of a coven with two others who also had relic just less powerful, while his could raise zombie and command ghost, his coven mates which he lorded over quite cruelly, relics had more minor powers one could seal a ghost in her relic for a limited amount of time while the others could stir a ghost from rest.

Well after X amount of time the coven mates grew tired of the guy and when they found an relic more powerful able to override his control over the dead so the next time he rose a dozen or so zombies they turned them back on their master (which just to make sure I'm not confusing anyone, that my character) and he ripped up and killed, still in one piece mind you, and well thats when a geist came and gave him a chance to fix the wrongs he did against the dead and the living.

Thats my character, heres my question.

Mementos, don't really understand, mechanically, them all that well, such as how to make them and what they do, I think I understand a three dot one rather well all it really does is allow you to use one ghost power attached to the item. While a level two just stores willpower? Don't understand the other ones, 1,4,and 5.

Also a Key stone, it is more or less a free mementos level two right? Is it a physical item like a mementos? Or it is it like something metaphysical that the gesit keeps on its person.

All post more questions as I have them.
Can a Vehicle be a "Fetter"

In one game I'm in, a PC who is a major fan of Brutal Legend, wanted his haunt to be a large two-story bus. His justification for a haunt is that basically the vehicle once belonged to a heavy metal band band who died in a accident (The bus falling off a cliff killing the occupants). He then salvaged the bus from a junk yard, fixed it up and turned it into his hell-on-wheels (The guy has a lot of Crafts so he can definitely pull it off). Suffice to say he assigned points to his haunt and wants to use his bus to be a mobile "Haunt". Does a haunt have to be a location or can it be a mobile vehicle?

For the same difference, the guy also has a motorcycle which he uses as a fetter, often taking it for a drive into the underworld. Can something as large as a Motorcycle be a fetter, and secondly would he be able to drive it in the underworld? Any opinions on this?

I am intrigued at the relationship between the Sin-Eater and the Moros mage. I posted a similar thread on the Mage forum and wondered about some of the pro-Geist folks' opinions here.

I was thinking about perceptions of who has the greater claim to Death: the Sin-Eater who has bonded with a being who was alive and now dead and something... else vs. the mage who claims to have etched his name onto a watchtower dedicated to the supernal concepts of Death and Matter of the Stygian realm.

1. Killing a "bad" person and throwing the problem over the wall hoping they do better in the afterlife doesn't seem really responsible or well thought out (unless you're an underpants gnome).

2. It's not a sustainable archetype. Reapers kill the living which is a blow to Synergy.

3. That they get no supernatural inspiration on who needs to die other than what comes from their gut; this makes them no different than sociopathic vigilantes like Rorschach. I don't see how making the living world a better place has to do with Sin-Eating. Why worry about which mortals need to die? I understand that Reapers may murder on behalf of a ghost's wish as a means to help them pass on or to get information from them.

4. Taking on the mantle of Grim Reaper after becoming a Sin-Eater for the
purpose of getting rid of bad people sounds like the PC has an
immature grasp on what Death is or means. Someone with high Synergy should accept that Death is mercurial and strange. Good people die. Bad people die. It's the way it goes. Try not to think about it like someone who hasn't died before; you've transcended that way of thinking.

Here's what I wanted Reapers to be doing:

1. Be able to see the mark of death on those who are about to die (kind of like Dead Like Me).

2. Be able to see the mark of death on those who SHOULD HAVE died but escaped death (i.e. Final Destination). Killing them in the manner of their assigned threshold actually increases/restores Synergy. Reapers would actually be using their powers to set up a scenario to kill mortals the way they were supposed to die. You didn't die in a hunting accident? Well now you're going to get shot in the face by a mugger (who happens to be me). It gets interesting when you're fighting against other SEs or psychic mortals who are trying to keep people marked for death from dying.

3. Be able to stop the death of someone marked for death at a blow to Synergy (like in the pilot for Dead Like Me).

4. Perform a ceremony to push the death of someone marked for death onto another mortal (like that Supernatural episode "Faith" from Season 1). Maybe it's a Synergy roll, but no penalty.

I'm not done with the core book yet, so feel free to correct any misconceptions I have about Reapers or the rules in general.

Thanks!
Ideally, I will also be doing a short (2 parter) in the winter as a follow up. I'll use this thread for both.

Note for notable powers I just listed some of their keys and manifestations. Most have at minimum a Ceremony or two not listed here, No space for everything and did not want to keep updating it.
Keth almost died of exposure, if he had not been hit by the emergency vehicle that slid off the road looking for him. Keth has become somewhat obsessed by the concept of fate, and takes his role in the Krewe as lorekeeper very seriously.
Ben was an itinerant preacher and con man who claimed to serve the Lord but only served himself, sometimes acting as a sin-eater or go between for the dead. Having been struck down by lightning, he carries the soul of a fire and brimstone preacher with him, who communicates via the Bible…
Travis was an angry high school student who died in a school shooting and met a very angry Geist. Together they have left a few bodies behind them as they travel the road. They only kill those who deserve it, but as has been said…they are some very angry people, and can be harsh judges.
Notable Powers: Phantasm Key, Stigmata Key, Caul, Rage, Distant Vision
As a final note, sharp eyed people with entirely too much free time may find references in the names or such to old school Vampire, Wraith, Mummy or Demon. This is, uh, totally coincidental...and...um...stuff. Not a reference at all. ;) Also, I know I may be off on some of my Vegas fu, cut me some slack. ;) I have never been to Vegas nor, as far as I know, have any of my players.
anyway onto the good stuff next post.

According to greek mythology, the only way to get to the underworld is to pay Charon to ferry you across the river Styxs. However, if you can't pay the boatman, or for some reason you can't move on, you become a ghost, a shade within the living world.

Maybe the underworld is not the underworld told of by our ancestors. The mythological afterlifes are within the supernal realm of stygia, while the underworld (in Geist) is where those who were unable to move on stay and dwell forever (or until they can move on).

What do you think (I hope I'm right)
She has recently joined a krewe, and at their first meeting is presented with two problems. She is being evicted from her apartment in two weeks, and the krewe is trying to gain control of a haunt in an old plantation house. The problem with the haunt is that the house was recently purchased by a lawyer and his family, wife and two teenage sons. The plan is to scare them into believing the house is severly haunted so that they leave and the krewe can purchase the home.

The next session, they will be breaking into the house to work several rites and keys/manifestations to scare the family.
maximum plasm pool as determined by Psyche (see p. 80). If the
character has purchased the Haunt Merit, specifically the Haunt
Residue, she begins play with an additional point of plasm per dot of
Haunt Residue. Thus, a character with Psyche 3 and two dots in Haunt Residue would begin with eight plasm points."

Let me get this example straight:

"maximum plasm pool as determined by Psyche"
Well, according to the table on p.80, Psyche of 3 = Max 22 plasm.

"begin with a plasm pool equal to half of their maximum plasm pool"
Half of 22 = 11 plasm points.

"she begins play with an additional point of plasm per dot of Haunt Residue."
(plasm pool of 11) + (2 dots of Haunt Residue) = 13 plasm points.

"Thus, a character with Psyche 3 and two dots in Haunt Residue would begin with eight plasm points."
Huh? 13 is not 8.

What am I missing?

When he came back from death, an angel told him how he could find his wife and son again. Parson Albert Trasse wrote a book of which it was said, that it told the gruesome truth of death to the reader.
Should this book be read to an audienceof at least twenty listeners for an entire night, they would see no hope in their life and commit suicide. Their souls sop tormented would certainly haunt the reader and could be absorbed by a crafty Sin-eater to merge them with teh thus also created Death stain and forge an avernian gate, open for an entire lunar cicle.
The Death Wish Ceremony, they call it, and the book may lie in a local 2nd hand bookstore up for grabs.

My question is Since Sin Eaters can Come back From Death.. would he be capable of coming back if he was basicly torn to bits and fed upon.. Is their a limit to what their gheists can do to bring them back.. or is he Dead for good?

Also Gm already ruled he would not be able to come back.. but i still wish for Feed back.

Advocates - as these are the ones that want to assist ghosts in completing their unfinished business (ala The Ghost Whisperer or Medium).

Bonepickers - These seem to be loners to me, or at best a collection of bounty hunters of a sort.

Celebrants - a pleasure-seeking cult? Basically, now that these folks got a taste of what death was like, they band together to throw one hellacious party before they kick off for good...

Gatekeepers - these are the ones I have the best ideas with, picturing a local Tier 1 (possibly leaning toward Tier 2) krewe dedicated to policing up ghostly abuses, ie. investigating reports of ghostly hauntings and possessions and working to resolve them and keep the ghosts from interfering with the living (sorta like the Dictum Mortuum was supposed to do in Wraith the Oblivion).

Mourners - seem more like loners to me.

Necromancers - Best viewed to me as antagonists, rivals, or part of a local cult or a combo of all of these.

Pilgrims - Either loners or part of a Tier 1 group.

Reapers - either serial killers or hired assassins (or both...)

I'm sure I have a limited grasp of these Archetype tendencies/potentials. What are your thoughts?

Story Ideas Come From the Strangest Places

We are getting the kids ready for Halloween and my youngest is a cute little witch. I like how White Wolf games find a nice balance between arguments over the justice of killing ghosts and rolling 10.

To that end, I enjoy number crunching.

I found that of all the Antagonists one could build for G:tSE, the Kerberoi were a bit confusing... their powers varied widely, and while 6+ rivers is supposed to be handled through fiat alone, sometimes it's just nice to have a massive final boss, so to speak.

So I built this.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/6hn40p

It's a spreadsheet with a series of algorithms to instantly generate a Kerberos. All you do is put in the number of rivers and decide the attribute hierarchy, and then you can generate to your heart's content. It also estimates beyond 6 rivers, for those of you brave enough to venture deep.

I know a lot of people won't need this - a ST I play with can generate a full SE character in less than 30 seconds. But for those interested, it does make it nice and simple, allowing you a chance to focus on the story and flavour of your cuddly hulking Underworld denizen.

Instructions are attached.
If anyone can ever think of any other character/antagonist/etc/etc generators they might like, feel free to ask, I whipped this thing up pretty quick and I like fiddling with numbers.

My first question:

Manifestations are ranked 1-5, and Keys are 1 or 0, you either have them or you don't.

However, with the Manifestation powers, it seems as though you only actually get useful powers once you get 2 dots in that Manifestation. Are you meant to add 1 for the Key, or is the first dot in a given Manifestation just to unlock it, and has no power until you get to the 2nd rank?
