Other was similar to time square filled with people but no so bright and lit up with signs. Another looked like the scene of a bloody Cruac ritual. There are others sure. Something like a vampire queen or litch. Some were character art, most were setting.


Wait a sec.  That one again?  They keep bringing that game out.

I know this game has seemed to fall between the cracks since the merger of CCP and White Wolf in late 2007, but it appears now that it's been hard at work behind the scenes and today, officially announced the WoD MMOG.


This is fantastic news! I cannot wait to see how Mage spells are handled and even Paradox.

Does anyone have any "insider" information about a release date?  CCP parties with possible game concept art is cool but, is there anything definitive yet?  I personally can't wait for this game to ruin my life.  The suspense is killing me.

Once, checking with France or Skandanavia would reveal release dates and secret information galore.  No more, evidently.  CCP is also keeping very secret.

To be completely honest, I cannot even conceive how this would work.

Unless you have an army of GM policing it you'll have an army of XxXLessstatXxX kids running around lolspeaking and making any kind of immersion or RP completely futile. Then you'd have the usual grinder game competing for the same market share of all the other MMOs that are out there already offering mindless time dumps where players are driven on rails and there's no plot interaction whatsoever.

The only way I could see this work would be to go about it in a NWN kind of way instead of a WoW kind of way. Where policing, admissions, plot progression, and everything else is handled by local user-based administration.

I'd honestly give it a go because I'm a pretty much life-long WoD fan, but I know it will be as much as a disappointment as WoW was on regard of RP.

i think the way it should be done is you start as mortal, which begins your tutorial, after the tutorial you can join one of the 3 major templates or stay mortal.  i think that later on down the road they will put out 3 expansions one allowing lesser templates for more options for mortals, another encompassing promethean and changeling and the last encompasing hunter and geist.

To be fair the World of Darkness wouldn't even exist if they didn't ride the coat-tails of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles surge of popularity.  Originally the World of Darkness was meant to contain only Vampires with the werewolf legends being based of the Gangrel and the wizard legends being based of the Tremere.

However now a days World of Darkness means 3 gamelines to everyone who knows anything about it, Vampire, Mage, Werewolf.  Changeling and Hunter come in close as well.  I don't think you need to worry about Werewolves being in WOD:O but I also don't think Vampire the Requiem caters to the Twilight crowd all that much either.

Yes but Anne Rice wrote... at least one... really good vampire novel.

Stephenie Meyers hasn't written any.

I think the biggest difference is that when Rice presented horribly twisted abusive-power relationships in her books - she treated them as such, as opposed to Meyers who presents them to little girls as a romantic ideal, as complete sublimation of the self to one's man is her idea of morality.

Actually if you're worried about grinding, be happy that this game is being worked on by both White Wolf traditional employee and CCP.  As far as I can tell, they are not neglecting the examples that VtM Bloodlines provided.  It's my hope that along with the obvious route of permitting vampires to commit strange deeds and vie for power that vampires might also ignore the whole power conflict and live their lives in a sim game of friendships and happy furniture arranging.  This would actually make the game more popular as people seem to like arranging furniture in MMORPG.  Also one must keep in mind that the game takes place in the modern era, early 21st century, with computers (to store information/clues/contacts) and books (to avoid hacking at least), cell phones (so that long range random contacts don't occur: no /tell unknown vampire Hey I want some money!  Loan me resource fragments!), handheld video recording (so that one might record odd events for future examination and future perception rolls), radio broadcasts using artificial voice and phrase generation technology keyed into recent situations, television broadcasts doing the same, etc.

Furthermore, I keep thinking there might be a side-game of acquiring cards to influence events in the game.  This could help with the experience point system which otherwise would have to always draw from virtue/vice based objectives -- adding player set goals within constraints of the card system might work too.

Also, to keep the game from descending into a game of who has the most player accounts, there could be NPC members of guilds and NPC guilds that PC can join, all functioning like PC guilds and each with different objectives and methods.

Considering the CCP philosophy of holding back to make sure the product is quality, the game might be mortals or mortals and vampires only to start out with.

In many ways, yes.  It would also be somewhat disappointing, though.
