So, based off of sources in the books, when two Exalted Dynasts of the Realm marry, neither of them takes the others' name.  I still am not sure of the method used for naming children, but as the Realm leans slightly toward the matriarchal side, I assume that children take the mother's name if both of the parents are Exalted.  We also know that direct children of the Empress (Tepet was a dude, I think) had their children and possibly their spouses take their names.  AFAIK, we don't really know the status of un-exalted dynasts who marry Exalted, but i think we can assume that the children of such a union would belong to the house of the Exalted parent.  Also, patricians.  Their children of course would have the name of the Dynastic parent, but are patricians who marry Dynasts inducted into the Dynastic house?

I *think* the rough way it goes is royal family>Dynastic Exalt>Un-Exalted Dynast>Patrician; the higher-ranked parent gets the children as part of their house, and depending may also get the spouse as well (it's still not clear whether one of the parents actually joins the other house, or remains part of their birth house).

Is there any more info in any of the books on this?

I imagine, like most everything in DB society, who goes to which family and what the children are named are just bargaining chips on the negotiation table leading up to the nuptuals.

IIRC from 1st ed, it works like this.
When two dynasts marry, they don't take the name of the other.
However, they generally go and and live with the family of:
the exalted dynast if only one is exalted
the female dynast if they are both exalted or unexalted
Any children are then part of that family, which is a more significant thing, since a lot of dynasts don't actually spend much time with their spouses, so while they might officially live with their wife's family, they can actually go and hang out with their own family without too much difficulty.
If a non-Dynast marries a Dynast, they do take the Dynast's name, and become part of that family. This is why so many of the old Shogunate families have vanished, since they married into the Dynasty.

I've often wondered if polygamy has any place in Dynast sexual dynamics, or, whether it has historically.

Which leads me to wonder, was the Scarlett Empress ever married or did she simply take lovers?

Technically speaking she was married to Rawar of Arjuf from RY: 114 to RY: 370.

She had several consorts at the same time, including Nellens and Tepet.

Polygamy is not permitted, but keeping descreet lovers is expected.
