It may not be the WOD MMORPG everybody seems to be so excited about as of late... But it is something.

What is your opinion on this game?

There isnt enough info out to have an opinion yet. Three societies and monsters, thats all I can get from it.

It has a woman using a katana against the Cloverfield monster. I've already dismissed it.
Please don't call me Herr Strudel. I'm not German, I'm from the USA. The reason I choose the screen name Don Strudel is because I am Don Strudel is an anagram of Tom Anus Riddle.

it's basically Shadowrun put in the Old World of Darkness setting with the typical "you are the chosen one" bullcrap that people throw on the characters to make them feel special.

no horror at all.

"Horror" is supposed to be something that makes you feel fear, although different people are scared by different things. The Secret World is not scary at all. It's more like pulp fiction, where the plot boils down to "fight aliens and save the world." I prefer something with a little more substance, like the accumulation of wealth and power and socio-economic-political conflict (haves versus have-nots, for example, or snobs versus slobs). My biggie is that whatever you do should be something relevant to your personal goals, not being a generic rent-a-hero with no life. "Good versus Evil" is so last season.

The Secret World might have mild horror.  For people who get nightmares from "horror" videogames, then we can imagine the three factions who have conquered much of the world of man getting over their heads with Agartha and such.  It would be interesting from that angle.

Then again, Age of Conan (though not by Ragnar Tornquist) dampened my spirits to future makings from Funcom.  I was sort of hoping it would be like Robert E Howard's work or at the very least a Heavy Metal magazine comic.  I'm not sure what I did end up seeing, but it resembled EQ2 mixed with DAoC with a really bad campaign prelude -- even in concept.

I think Secret World my break my WoW addiction if was not Xbox 360 exclusive.  That sucks for me and my pc.  Though to be honest with you Don I am getting kind of sick of if it is not horror, then it must suck attitude.  What happen to the concept of having mindless fun?  It is not made by white wolf so why the negativity?

Nothing. The problem is, you can have pure, unabashed fun that's not mindless, so why the need for mindless? The answer is not pretty.

The problem with the "it's not horror so it must suck" attitude isn't that the people who subscribe to it would be trying to take the fun out of things, it's that they're mixing things up. Don't fall into that trap. "Mindless" fun is just another side of the same coin.

This.

Yeah, I feel that in pursuing whatever one thinks it's best, sometimes one tends to go to extremes. Good for one's game if that's all involved want to play, but no extreme is something that one may expect to appeal to the majority, be it exaggerated introspection or action that insults the intelligence of even the most jaded person.

Only if you like Facebook application games more than you like WoW.

It's not Xbox 360 exclusive.  It's for Microsoft Windows too.  We can rest assured that Vista is slowly vanishing from being focused on by newer games.

Facebook game applications are mindless tedium as is World of Warcraft.  I'm coming to the opinion that Facebook can keep WoW fans until they understand that MMORPG are best not made by Blizzard and other drone corporations.

I'm impressed, i just came from browsing their web site and from what i see, its eye candy with a loose society structure with lots of kill. I'll be playing it on the 360 when it comes out. But here me oh white wolf! When your MMORPG comes out i shall not forsake thee! I am your slave and will spend every last penny on you until i'm nothing more than a set of bookcases, a computer with your games on it, living on the streets dangerously plugged into a nearby lamp post.
Or, more realistically... I'll buy your game too and enjoy the hell out of it as much as a busy RL allows me.
And to everybody else, do yourself a solid and go check it out... the raven critter is pretty sweet!
Later.

Nothing happened to it but video games are now way too common place for mindless fun to be something you pick up a new concept for.  Even most casual gamers want more than mindless fun when they are dropping $50-$60 on a game.  For example I have no problem dropping $20 for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and that's really only mindless fun and nostalgia.  But more than that i want some substance to my entertainment.

Even the new Ghostbuster's game wasn't mindless fun and it probably could have gotten away with it since it was a game many older nerds had been waiting for since the 80s.

Considering WoW has 11 million users and still growing I say it is doing pretty damn well for a game that is mindless septembervirgin.  Maybe with the whole warcraft, starcraft, diablo, and many other games that Blizzard had made I am force to disagree with you on the grounds of common sense.  Like it, or not world of warcraft is pretty good MMORPG other wise it would had failed years ago.

Not to mention their are other games that are mindless and yet to people who play video games these games are a classic and will be remembered through all time.  Doom, mario brothers (the old nintendo games), donky kong, space invaders, pong, grand theft auto, and many other games can be mention in this list.
