Darwin movie gets no US distributor

According to the article only 39% of Americans believe the theory of evolution.  Really? Only 39%?  Or is that article just wrong?  Maybe it's just a movie no one sees making money in US theatres because of the subject matter (a time period drama), those kinds of movies tend not to do well financially over here.

Not really.  Everyone is drinking the cool aid.  Those who don't like the taste of the cool aid are still drinking just to hang out with everyone at the water cooler.

The 61% is also why Fixed Noise, I mean Fox News, is so popular. 61% of Americans watch the Flinstones like it's a documentary.

Personally I would go see a Darwin movie.

Indeed.

And here I thought the US media industry thrived on conflict and controversy.

I had an epiphany once... creationism is right... people did not evolve from monkeys... people are monkeys...

Here is a link to the poll I think they were referring to.  It is not quite as bad as they made it sound but it is still not good.

here is my question: how you go about doing that?

it's not like every is rushing to make a major movie about how Edison invented the light bulb..

True, but there was a rush to make a movie about some convict being executed on a couple pieces of wood.  I mean its not that big a deal, it happens right?

Really a movie can be about any subject big or small.  It just has to be interesting enough for people to watch.  I know I would go see this movie (maybee as a rental depending).

well, that's saying that Altheism is a religion (with Darwin as it's "demigod" figure) all to it's self by comparing it to a action religion.

and again, to be truthful, if the movie did come out, i don't see a big huge rush to see it. manly because of the difference in mindsets in atheist and believer. believers have a need for a religious experience and thus buy anything that has their god/savior/prophet on or in it. atheists (supposedly) don't have this mindset because they don't hold anything up to a godlike status and thus are more free thinking.

from a scientific perceptive, it is in the same boat as the invention of the light bulb. nothing fancy, nothing nice or cute. just the cold hard facts of what this discovery is and how can we build off it.

it might be good from a documentary standpoint but there really is nothing to build off it. no money to be made.

In response to all the people who are saying things like "It makes me sad that people don't believe in evolution" and "That's not good," I ask: Why?

Because there are really two main reasons people don't believe in evolution:

Poor education, which I think is a vastly bad thing for a society.

Poor approaches to religion.  I'm not going to make claims about specific religions, but as a human being, if one is to accept a supreme deity (or deities) that shaped the world with a purpose into what it is now, believing what some dead guy wrote centuries ago is more important than the lessons the world around us has to teach, then that person is worthy of pity.

Very good answers, Zeev.  As someone who was expecting something rather more kneejerk, I am impressed by your reasoning.
