(This is an idea I have for a PBP game, but I can't say for certain that I'll actually be able to host it, as I have rather extreme demands on my time these days.  If that will be the case, I'll need a backup ST, but comment and critique please.)

The Beginning of the Conflict
Two months ago, in Dallas, a very foolish motley of changelings made a pact with a group of mages.  They handed over their fetches for study in exchange for memories of the time that they had missed, so that they would be able to slip back into their old lives.  The Sorcerers upheld their end of the bargain, but sorcerers being sorcerers, they were far from content to settle at that.  After several weeks of tinkering, they created a dark and craven ritual: at midnight, during the witching hour, the fetch could be sacrificed in order to bind it's changeling, should he or she be within the world of man, into forced servitude.  Knowledge of the rite quickly spread, and mages all across the city scrambled to acquire fae servants.

Little did they realize the conflict that would ensue because of this.

The Court's Diplomacy
When the Courts of the city discovered what was happening, they quickly attempted to open diplomatic channels with the local concilium, but their efforts were for naught.  The mages were haughty and arrogant, and presumed to lecture the changelings on the reality of their "condition", making the extent of their ambitions of using the changelings as guides to find and reclaim "their" Arcadia.  The Courts then set about preparing for war, having all of their members retreat into the Hedge, save a few crafty spies and observers.

Heaven's Fall
Yesterday, the Autumn King decided to retaliate.  In the morning, he called together high ranking members of the spring court, and together they called down rain upon the city, bringing about several flash floods in outlying areas, and soaking the city for eight hours, and forcing the inhabitants indoors.  Then, he called upon his own court, Autumn, and in a similar rite, brought down hail the size of bowling balls onto the city, which fell for eight hours, destroying the city's infrastructure.  Finally, the leaders of winter came forth, and they brought upon the city eight hours of snow, a giant blizzard that whited out everything, and left the now quiet city paralyzed in ice.

Today: The Battle
As the clouds remain stationary overhead, and it can be presumed that Dawn will come later than usual, the leaders of the courts have mobilized all remaining motleys, and drafted the courtless, to begin a great raid to raid the strongholds of the mages and to rescue those held captive by the sorcerers, then flee into the hedge.  Your characters are a motley, either thrown together from the remnants of captured changelings or one that survived, for some reason or another, relatively intact.  What you do today will affect the outcome of events tonight, when the courts reopen talks with the concilium after the raid.  Your motley has been given a token by autumn conjurers that they are told will break the spells binding your fellows.  As the day passes, the mages will have time to prepare for your coming, and if you let time slip by too quickly, the challenges you face will become more and more difficult and deadly.

The Game
The game will begin in a staging area of the hedge, located near a goblin market, where the PCs can stop by if they decide to look for a quick leg up for the day.  Keep in mind that the characters will need to be able to handle the cold somehow, even if all they have is a parka, or a very thick jacket and layers.  Also, keep in mind that violence may not be the only way to free your comrades, but you may encounter anything from summoned beasts to human looters to sorcerous marauders, as well as far stranger creatures, in the course of the day.  It would be best to prepare for the eventuality of bloodshed.  Also, keep in mind that the city is largely without power or water, as the onslaught of yesterday has left it's infrastructure in tatters, and rescue workers are just now starting to make a dent in some sections of the city.

Character generation will be standard, plus 50 xp, although this can be saved and spent in the goblin market by the staging area.  Goblin contracts may only be purchased there, rather than at char gen.

Please post critiques, comments, feedback, advice, character sheets, and if anyone would like to volunteer to be a backup ST in case I am unable to fulfill my obligations let me know.  And no, I have no idea what site I'll use, any suggestions?

This sounds like an awesome story. Mage vs. Changeling in a city crippled by water and ice. Summer lords sharpen thier blades while Winter assisans slip into the shadows. I would love to play in a game like this. For host site I would reccomend www.GotExp.com/d20 . I ST and play on this site. There are currently about a dozen different games running there right now. You might be able to find an assistant ST there also.

I really love the idea of a mage / changeling war, but if the changelings got the memories back, why do they care what happens to the fetches?

Because as stated above, the mages are using the fetches to capture the changlings.
Be a really good time to have killed your fetch early on I'd say....

@ Frosty
Thanks, and I checked out the site.  It looks good, so I think I'll use it.  Thanks.  Would you be interested in running a character in it, or does time permit? (I see your other games there too)

@ Nightstorm
They don't so much care about the fetches as the ensnarements they are used to create.  I don't want to drop any spoilers just now on various plot twists and turns, but it could, depending on the player's action, create an interesting plot point.

@ lacewing

Yep, I assume that will be the default stance for quite a few of the PC's characters, although I would be slightly more impressed if players can come up with another reason why they haven't been bound yet.

General:  it looks like this will pan out pretty well.  I have some of the generic antagonists written up, and am working on a "map" so to speak, of places the characters can go and things they can do based on Dallas.  It looks promising.  Although character death is a very real possibility in some of the situations you can get yourself in within the city.

Since I'm a fan of everything that's related to ice and water, you can most definitely count me in.

Well I play in a Mortals game, and I am running a Changeling game, but I admit you premise sounds really cool. I would like to play in it when the story gets started.

Never so happy to have previously killed your fetch, or failing that a fetch with Normalcy, (Suck it Mages, try and pick him out of the human populace now, especially if you don't know me, which you wouldn't). All those whose fetches were alive didn't have Normalcy would  be screw though, until the changeling killed every single Mage who had that knowledge, which they are more than capable of, especially if there is Talecrafting involved.

I would note serial killing supernaturals is only a Clarity 2 breaking point, thus totally able to be recovered from with time and stable/safe living. The Changelings have to morality edge in a large scale conflict with other supernaturals, only trumped by Werewolves. Also, Changeling are better at finding other supernaturals (Keening, an ability every changeling with starting Clarity has) then they are at finding changelings, a -3 penalty listed in the Rites of Spring for using powers to detect fae nature. The main advantage of a natural disaster for the changelings is body counts are expected on the news and emergency services (police, ambulances etc...) aren't going to be able to help anyone for hours or days. This is the very reason Mages keep some magic hidden from those over eager to learn it and are a clear demonstration of Hubris on the Mage's part. Also this is a great reason to have the Mages cleared from an area, before starting a new Mage Chronicle, with perhaps the new PCs discovering records of a ritual that control fae creatures and then a siege of being slaughtered to the last person, perhaps with the spray of blood on the last page.

With Fatepaths and changelings able to make a scrappy bum on the street a financially independent  Kung Fu master for the pledge of tracking down and killing its enemies, it doesn't look good for the Mages who have that knowledge.

It looks like this will pan out.  The sketch of the city is rough, but coming along, and NPC reactions and a flow chart of how the PCs actions will shape events is in the works.  I'll keep you posted.

So, the rough sketch of the city and events are done, although still rough.  To refine them up to standards, I'm going to need character submissions in the next couple of weeks.  You can PM me or Email them to me at Masqueofcrump@gmail.com if you prefer.  Or you could post them up here, if you don't mind other players possibly spoiling.

I'll give you something soon, I have a good idea of what I want the character to be durance and beyond, but I haven't hammered out the details of his human life.

Hmmm, intriguing premise.  Wondering what the Seers of The Throne would be doing in all this.  They definitely would want to take advantage in some manner of a Consillium of Pentacle Mages being at war with another foe.  Perhaps give the Changeling Courts covert material aid or maybe even a few "military advisors" to help them in their fight, just for the opportunity to strike a massive blow against the Orders and maybe loot sanctums of grimoires and enchanted items.

Would be interesting to see a motley of Changelings interact with a Seer ally npc, or maybe even a pc if you don't mind crossover parties.  I mean, think about it, a Seer would be a follower of entities which supposedly treat the entire Fallen World and all its sleepers the way the Fae treated Changelings, as belongings to do with as one wants.  Having one on their side would make for interesting party dynamics.

BTW, if you don't mind crossover pcs, dibs on the Seer. :)
