Okay, so I had an interesting idea.  I've spent too much time over the last few weeks watching "Class of the Titans"  online after it was recommended in the Inspirational Material thread.
I have been planning a Greek based Scion game and have always liked the idea of the characters being more like the heroes in the stories and not knowing they are the children of the gods until later.
I have toyed with the idea of not letting them spend all 10 points for epics/boons and allowing them access to the rest when finally they are claimed by their parents.  Access to birthrights of course would grant use of boons at the appropriate level, but would only be received after they are claimed by their parents.  I have also decided that the gods would show up disguised and not let the heroes know exactly what is going on until they are ready to be claim the heroes.

So the idea I got from watching the cartoon was to have the characters have an idea that they are a descendant of one of the great heroes from the stories.  I just went through Edith Hamilton(again) for some clues and details about some of the characters and tried to think of possible additives kind of like a merit and flaw for each.  Some of the ideas so far...

Jason-  Captain of the Argo.  Lead the expedition of heroes to retrieve the golden fleece.  Married Medea then abandoned her, she later killed his new wife and their children.  Merit:  +5 skill points to be spread between Command, Control, Politics, Presence and Thrown.  Flaw:  ?

Medea-  Sorceress.  Renown for occult knowledge and magic skill.  Aided Jason in retrieving the Golden Fleece.  Murdered Jason's new wife and their children when Jason abandoned her and rode away on a chariot pulled by dragons.  Merit: +1 bonus spell Flaw: Vengeance virtue rolls are made as if temp will is -2

Daedalus- Inventor and Craftsman.  Father of Icarus, he created the Minotaurs labyrinth and the wax wings used to escape Crete.  Merit:  +1 epic int,  Flaw:  Intellect virtue rolls made as if temp will is -2

Theseus-  Athenian warrior.  Cousin of Heracles.  Killed the Minotaur in the labyrinth and participated in the Calydonian boar hunt.  Renounced his kingship of Athens and established a democracy.  Merit:  +1 Epic Dex  Flaw:  "Loves danger for the sake of danger" considered at -2 will when resisting to take dangerous action.

Heracles-  Strongest man in the world.  Quick to lose control then humbly seek penance.  Went into a rage and killed his family then had to complete the 12 labors as penance.  Was vulnerable to magic.  Merit:  +2 epic strength  Flaw:  Magic does x2 damage.

Achilles-  Greek hero during Trojan War.  Dipped in the river Styx as a child was considered invulnerable except his heel.  Was a moody savage that lived for combat.  Merit  +2 epic stamina  Flaw:  Must pick an area of the body.  Epic stamina does not protect that area.

Atalanta-  Woman raised by bear.  Hunter and hero superior to most men.  Responsible for the final death of the Calydonian boar.  Finally had to marry after losing foot race when distracted by golden apples.  Merit +1 epic dex (lightning sprinter) Flaw: Presence of gold causes expression virtue rolls to be made as if temp will was -2.

Still trying to finish ideas for Odysseus, Perseus, Bellerophon, Aeneas and others.  Wanted to add an interesting element to the character stories.  Not sure if I'm balancing them right.  Any ideas?
Still working on it but wanted to know if this seems like a good idea and get ideas on how to make it work smoother.

You can play a legitimate Scion of Heracles in the RAW.

I am not sure I like it. The temp will thing does not mesh real well with the system, and varying levels in epics for some seems problematic to me. I'd prefer just using them as a model. Also, I can't think right off of a magic spell that does damage., apart from maybe that inflicted to draw blood for blood mead, which is relatively minor.

Original idea was to replace using the gods as parents.  To make it more the lineage that made you special and then later to have the gods look over you as a patron, in a sense adopting you.
Not starting with the full 10 points for epics and boons, but just a few here and there that set you apart.
As for Heracles, was thinking any boons effectively work as magic as well since they are supernatural in origin.  Of course I tried to think of making the ones that got more have a bigger disadvantage.

Maybe I should look more as putting it in as kind of a Merit.  To have an ancestor.  Then have that give a benefit that is not necessarily an epic or boon.

In that case I recommend rethinking that. It is fine at Hero but epics being what they are, come demigod it would be rather unfortunate rather fast.

I find it very complicated and yet very little accurate to change the rules that way.

I also toyed with the same idea as you and even went as far as setting my game in Ancient Greece (somewhat in the XII B.C.). But went on with the given mechanics on the corebook. It's wrorking great so far, I believe this is the dawn of the Second Age Of Heroes! :)

I like the idea of each Scion picking his own Favored Abilities/Epics instead of inhariting them from a parent. Idealy each Scion would have 5 Favored abilities (from the parent) and 3 Favored abilties he chooses himself to make himself more cusomizable.
