Hey all, a friend of mine and me, like many of you, didn't like the WWII Pantheons but liked the Industry and Civitas purviews and are working to making them into regular purviews but are having trouble in terms of the Avatar for each and I was wondering if anyone has ideas for that?

We have The Forge for Industry, essentially the ability to produce pretty much anything that has been forged by or god, within some limitations. The Forge can turn a beach into hundreds of sheets of glass, a coal mine into a diamond mine. A God invoking The Forge at a Junkyard can make very nearly anything, so long as the components nearby can make it.  They can also blast back a Titan or God with heat, forcing them to withdraw, though not inflicting serious injury. The Forge can turn an incoming army of Fire Giant tanks into sports cars for the gods, sized properly...or maybe into a mecha or two, depending on your game. ;)

I assigned Industry to Ptah, Hephaestus, Wayland Smith, Dian Cecht, Lugh, Fu Xi, and The Citizen (currently Citizen, Baba Yaga, and Perun are my Rus options). It is less a technology purview then a forging and smithing purview...and modern interpretations thereof

We have Civitas as essentially a newer version of Duality, taken by some Rus Scions and eschewed by others, though given we have no 4+ Duality in the books, its all Civitas after a point.  I did not make Civitas an APP because it did not, to me, really fill a niche, and I could not imagine any Gods, short perhaps of Athena, who it worked in my head for.

My highest-level group just hit Legend 6 where this would become an option, so this idea hasn't seen play yet, BUT...

I'm using Civitas as an upgrade to the Magic 5 spell Sanctified Band.  Once a band has been Sanctified, the group has the option to buy Civitas - as a group.  Each member of the band kicks in (current rating) XP for each level of the Purview that they want to buy up to, allowing all members to activate the Boon at that level.

[Edit by Sparketh: Poster put his edit into the edit notes instead of the body of the message. Below is the text that was hidden]

My bad, doesn't answer the OP's question - both Purviews have seen some discussion lately, and I figured I'd throw my two cents in. A suggestion for Civitas - make the Avatar for it the Wyrd. I know that Civitas doesn't directly have anything to do with Fatespinning or any of the other special purviews that do. However, its Boons represent an increasing degree of sharing oneself - whereas becoming the Wyrd is giving oneself completely over to Fate. Seems like a natural enough progression to me.

(I tried editing my text after the fact, but it didn't show up.)

I realized I didn't answer the OP's question: For Civitas, make the Avatar the Wyrd.  I realize that Civitas doesn't have anything directly to do with Fatespinning or Fatebinding (except for maybe drawing a group closer) as the other Special Purviews do.  However, the Boons in Civitas represent an increasing degree of sharing and/or sacrificing oneself, whereas in becoming the Wyrd, a character gives himself completely over to the designs of Fate.  It seems to be a natural enough progression to me.

Not terrible, but Civitas does seem to focus on teamwork more then martyrdom. The concept that the many is more then its individual parts. It does have elements of the Japanese concept of Wa, that being teamwork and cooperation a willingness to sacrifice oneself for the team, but in general particularly at the pennicle it is more about the group then the sacrifice. Which is part of why its a difficult concept to define and build an avatar around.

How about the Ally as a name for the avatar?
Can Truth be perceived or are our minds closed to it forever by our mortal failings? It is impossible to know, but the quest never ends and perhaps someday a flicker of these things will be perceived...

It is, but honestly, Eternals is one of the really big comic recommendations I make for Scion inspiration, so your not barking up the wrong tree. :)

Thats because you put the text into the edit notes instead of modifying the body of the message. The edit notes are there to specify what was changed, but only moderators and admins can see them.

Edit: I've copied the text and moved it for you =)

Ooo more ETERNALS fans. Oh yeah the Eternals do make great Scion inspirations. Humans becoming Godlike beings. Each one focusing on one or two specialities that interest them the most.
Uni-mind ?? That would make for a cool special purview. Each level allowing you to start the creation of a Uni-mind with fellow Scion/gods, each level increasing the number of people who can be involved or who can be involved.

Hey sounds like a great New Pantheon to create and new Purview to build around.

I liked the original series better then the second series, but the Eternals are cool. I'd totally use Ikaris as a character image. Doubly funny if the PC read Eternals as a youth and styled himself to look like Ikaris and got the outfit and whatnot.

...there was an Eternals series in '09 Jack Kirby did not do? The Hell?

Yeah, the last eternal series was short lived but good IMO. Oh and BTW Baron thank you for saying I wasn't barking up the wrong tree. From someone like you, I take that as a compliment :)

I'm sorry to highjack this thread a bit, but i figured this would be the best place to ask this. I'm running a game in which I have made Scire an APP and as the group is nearing the end of Demigod level, I figured I should figure out an Avatar for it. I'm having trouble coming up with one and thought I'd ask here for ideas.
