ABERRANT_SCION Posted: 6 Nov 2009 12:38 PM
We all know that the Level 9 Jotunblunt allows a God to turn a mortal into a Giant. This is not reversible even with the level 10 power. So My thought was "WHAT IF" an Aesir the lvl 9 Jotunblunt boon on a Pre-visited Scion. If the Scion becomes a Giant what would happen if the divine parent them does the visitation ?? Just picture it. A Giant 9 foot tall Scion Hero of the Aesir. This sounds to me like a cool character hook and possible story hook for a PC to use. It would allow a player to create a anime-styled brute thats for sure. You know the kind, the anime character which is just inhumanly huge to everyone else for no reason. This boon may be the reason for that.

Itd be exactly the same as visiting a minotaur scion or a harpy scion or any other legendary creature that is your scion.
They arent generally for player characters because they arent balanced, and there arent real rules for them, but they probably make good npcs.

Ragnarok actually has a story about a half-Giant adopted by Loki as a Scion, and the PCs have to save her from becoming a Fire Giant and to stay a Scion.

I believe they were saving her from becoming a Frost giant, though she was growing scales for some reason.  But Shrug I treat the Giant Boon as making mortals into beings the Equivalent of scions but with only Stamina and Strength as favored.  But if you give them a relic you can teach them other boons.
It is a time for great deeds.

I certainly don't see any problem with such a PC if the ST is careful. Epic Strenght combined with the Wiki Version of Jotenblut certainly can be used to make a pretty good giant like PC. As long as the GM enforces rule limitation, wether the pc is a huge giant of  man won't make that much of a difference except as a visual effect.

As long as the character isn't so extroadinarily huge that he can't move around in normal settings with a modicum of functionality that is.
Can Truth be perceived or are our minds closed to it forever by our mortal failings? It is impossible to know, but the quest never ends and perhaps someday a flicker of these things will be perceived...

Yea if you treat them as a normal PC who is a bit different visually its probably not a problem. Assuming the player is not angling for a special advantage they will probably be OK with that.

Though PCs can be pretty big even without that. We have a 6'8 Scion now, and people can get up to about 8'

Right and the Wiki Version includes boons that can temporarily increase size so from there it adds up to the concept. And I certainly don't think even a 10 foot tall character who be unplayable, even if it's beyond normal human possibility.

Giant is a relative term in mythology, it goes from huge mountain sized beings to barely beyond normal human sizes.

The important thing is to make them pay for anything special. A giant Scion probably wouldn't be that different from a regular Scion except that he might focus his Epics on Strength and Stamina. If you want him to be more like a specific variation of a giant, you can easily give him frost, fire, etc.

Also, Loki is considered a giant. He's just a small one.

I'm using the Offical Jotunblunt from the books though. Its Giant boon transforms a 6' man into a 9' giant (generic).
It is a cool idea for a PC or NPC though.

Oh, I had been under the impression that his parentage was unknown or in dispute.  I guess you learn something new every day!

well in the Titanomachy he helps you by tipping you off to his Dad's ambush, so Scion seems to be going with that.  There are some other stories, and he was adopted by Odin eventually.

Adopted as Odin's blood brother if I recall correctly.

Loki is a classic example of a titanspawn becoming a god.
