Hey all,
I know this has probably been answered already, but I couldn't find it after a quick peruse of the forum topics.
Where can I find advice/rules about werewolves getting pregnant, and how shapeshifting affects the fetus etc? Knowing my group, it's bound to be a topic sooner or later.
Alternately, what are your thoughts on this matter?

I think its a great aspect to a Werewolf story, and I am trying to find a way to work in family and children into the story I'm going to run soon.   The only drawback to this theme is given the maturity level of your players, it can quickly devolve into snickers or giggles whenever sex is brought up.

Some players might not feel too comfortable even remotely describing some intimate relationship beginning to grow between them and an npc, if they are uncomfortable doing that with the ST as the other party.  I recall a kid I played with back during Apocalypse, who I presented with an NPC that was clearly interested in him.  Every time I even hinted at some attraction from her,  he became incredibly uncomfortable with trying to tell me either in character or out of character what his character's reactions were.  He would suddenly act like he was about to be the butt of some joke and become nervous, and just fast forward over the situation.

So it is a subject with great roleplay potential, but is also heavily loaded with derailing landmines.  Tread carefully.

I hear you.
My group is 2 girls, and 2 gay guys, so I really doubt that it will come up for any of the PCs, but someone will ask OOC, because we're all an inquisitive bunch, so it'd be good to point them to the information.
I can always have a pregnant NPC to show instead of tell if it's necessary, if they would like to see it in game.

If you doubt any of the PC's will go down that story road, perhaps have one of their close family become pregnant.

I think you could really be surpised with your players characters choices or actions, for example. I may be straight, but assuming my character wouldn't be romantically involved with a woman probably wouldn't be a sure bet. There is a big difference between player beliefs/opinions/oreintations and a characters respective qualities.

That said I think its horrible that alot of groups cannot explore this kind of story seed because of their maturity level. To some people thats obviously fine, especially if no one in your group wants deep in character relationships with npc/players. But its been my experiance that in almost every group there is someone who wants to, and is either to embarrassed or tired of being harrassed about it to do so

I am not even sure that it is maturaty level to be honest with you. I mean if you can cover this topic in detail than it is great, but I just dont seeing grabbing the interest of alot of players. They would all likely say it is important and such but I am just not sure you would keep the interest of many groups for terribly long. You will always get jokess even if it is a mature group, smart ass comments are part of the fun.

It depends though really.  In a vampire or mage game, the emphasis on family doesn't seem as in keeping with the game setting as it is with Werewolf.    But since Forsaken is very much about Instinct and the primal nature of these wolf-like beings, one of the strongest urges in the animal world (and human world for that matter) is to mate and procreate.  Personally I think it would be leaving out a large aspect of the game to not incorporate family and breeding and the like, simply to help hammer home the idea of pack and family, and protecting that which you care about.

Of course that being said, if your players just want to jump into Garou form and rip and tear, then yeah it will be hard to incorporate smoothly.

I remember using family against a player of mine back in Apocalypse, he was playing a Get of Fenris, who was born into the Garou culture from Kinfolk, so was always in the know.  When he gave me his background he told me he had a very big family, lots of siblings, younger and older, including a sister no more than about 5-6 years old.

In a certain encounter, I had him come across the mutilated body of a little girl who looked very much like his sister, and was staring lifeless at him when he entered the room.  Making that reference to his sister kicked the player into gear, and it lead to some very excellent roleplaying as he started worrying a great deal about his family, and made efforts to keep tabs on them.

I think the key to working close family and parenting issues into the game is to try and make the players carry over their own feelings for their family into the character's.  This way they can at least try and react in a realistic manner.
