My Opinion: Kicked ass!

Spoiler Alert:  Robots fight and Humans are useless.  Megan Fox is HOT!

It's a Michael Bay movie, so I won't watch it. (He confuses effects for scripts and I hate that.)

Plus, I hate the way he made the Transformers look. I will not forgive him for taking a huge crap on some of my fondest childhood memories.

You can't really blame Bay for character design decisions unless you want to blame the wrong person.

I liked the first movie even though it changed some of the characters a bit (Skorponok shouldn't have been that small for example) but overall I liked what I saw.  They took a half hour daily commercial for robot toys and made a movie length commercial for some new robot toys, if you expected something else I'm sorry.

I loved the old Veritech looking Jetfire (I used to have a lot of the first and second series figures back in the 80's, including Jetfire, which I used to bribe my little brother when he caught me doing shit I could get in trouble for) but I'm looking forward to seeing his SR-71 incarnation.

Not really. Bay was the director, and as such holds most creative control for the film. That would include visuals. Actually, I've read that Bay, Don Murphy, and Tom DeSanto were responsible for choosing the look of the Transformers to help convey their robotic alien origins.

So yeah, I feel justified in blaming Bay for them looking like shit.

As for it selling toys, I expected that. My complaint is, they should have stayed a little closer to the source material, and kept a closer look. Optimus in the cartoon looked like an old Peterbilt, even in robot form. In the movie, he looked like... a Japanese mecha that was missing alot of the outer skin/panelling so they could show off the fancy inner workings of all the moving parts.

And yes, I'm pisssed about it.

My only hope is that Michael Bay uses the budget for Transformers 3 to turn himself into an explosion.
It'd be fitting. And awesome.

just cut out the Humans. all people want to see is really the CGI

and to a lesser extent, Megan Fox.

Come on, guys.  This isn't supposed to be some fruity art house movie.  Its about action, explosions, Optimus Prime vs Megatron, and a hot chick used as icing on the cake.

I'd much rather watch this than "Away We Go" or "Juno".

He's the director of a licensed property that changes looks every four or five years, the licensors have final approval, not Bay.  This isn't the 80's incarnation of the franchise, the source material you speak of is the generation one cartoons, that story is done and not being revisited by the movies.  If anything the movies are telling a version of the later mythos, as evinced by the use of "The Fallen" who didn't enter the Transformers lore until long after the 80's cartoons were gone.  You may as well complain that Prime's cab doesn't fold out into a laser turret or whatever it turned into back then, or that Megatron isn't a Walther ppk.  At least Prime turned into a tractor trailer and not any of the other vehicles he's been incarnated as over the years.

I am aware that Sam's last name is a nod to the original tv series, but this isn't that story.

Yes.

As to my opinion, the first movie was much better in terms of story, production value, scripting, and just about everything else.

This movies is over the top, poorly produced, poorly directed, script light, explosion heavy, and overall not that great.  But it does remind me more of the cartoons than the first movie did, so I would say all in all it was well done.

Don't go in looking for anything ground breaking.  Just sit back and enjoy.

A robot practically tea bagging the audience has got to be THE most brazen "Haha! I've got your money!" moment in the history of cinema.
